Home Care Services Providers Help To Bring Awareness About Recommended Vaccines For Seniors
Oct 31, 2018 by Shannon Meller
Vaccines help to reduce some of the symptoms that are associated with illness and infection. The CDC recommends that seniors be vaccinated, but home care services providers want you to know the truth is, about 43% of seniors 65 and older have NOT had their vaccines. Seniors are often more susceptible to infection and illness, so these vaccines are important.
Of course, vaccines are not a guaranteed protection, but they help to lessen the symptoms you experience from the illness. Below, our team of home care services providers will talk about which vaccines are recommended.
- Tdap vaccine – For protection against pertussis, tetanus, and diphtheria, this is the recommended vaccine. If you have not had the shot in the last 10 years, you should have a booster.
- Shingles vaccine – This vaccine is also called the herpes zoster vaccine and it is recommended for seniors. This vaccine protects against shingles, which is a painful skin rash that can result in blisters on the skin.
- Pneumococcal vaccine – The pneumococcal bacteria is responsible for both pneumonia and meningitis. Seniors can receive this shot to help protect themselves as the illnesses that these cause lead to hospitalizations and deaths each year.
- Influenza vaccine – The flu starts in October and can have complicated symptoms for the elderly. This vaccine works to protect seniors from those symptoms.
